Returning blood

I would like to know if anyone has a policy on returning waste blood after a blood draw. I work on a heme-onc BMT floor on Pediatrics and we will be doing this a lot more than we do now. We have a procedure book that we can follow, but no actual policy at this time. Would appreciate input on how others do it. Thanks.

When I lived in Phoenix and worked at a very prominent PICU, we always returned the "waste"-------------if not, you would be transfusing many of those kids almost daily.
