Hi Tory, I started out in Oncology right out of nursing school and loved it. Our hospital had a six week preceptor program, supportive coworkers, a great nursing ed dept... new grads took classes to become chemo certified, IV certified, TPN certified. ETC.!! There are many ways to learn, the best is called experience, which stars your first footstep onto the floor. Learn the P and P's, read charts, listen, study... and remember to have a life outside! Also, oncology is a lot more than learning facts... look into your patient's eyes and listen to them with your heart. You'll be amazed at what you learn about human dignity, love, fears and courage. Wishing you good luck and many rewards in your career!
