My 4 year old son may have lymphoma/ lukemia please advise?

My 4 year old son 7 weeks ago presented with a lump on the anterior od his neck on the right side, it started of as pea sized, he has a hoasness to his voice he was diagnosed with anemia after blood tests 1 week ago and was prescribed iron supplements which are child frendly s they react in the gut rather than his stomach as his appetite is low anyhow. This lump is now the size of half a ping pong ball and we have been told that he will recieve an appointment within the next 4 weeks for a specialist childrens hopsital, if any other symtpoms develop I am to return him to our GP. If he gets worse he will recieve an appointment within 2 weeks. I am worried that he has lymphoma or lukemia as his symtoms fit but the blood test only showed marked reduced red blood cells and minimal elevated white cells. I am soon to be a student nurse and wish I knew more as I know you guys have a wealth of experiance I was hoping you would help me on this personal matter. My questions are as follows:

1) Does it happen a lot in cases of pedeatric cancers of this type that they do not show elevated levels of white blood cells.
2) Am I just over thinking things and going into mummy mode.
3) Do I let him eat whatever he fancies to keep his weight up as he started to look skinny but still feels hefty enough( like most children will eat ice cream but has gone off most foods)

Hello LAZYDAISY!!!

I am so very sorry to hear about your son. I understand your fears, concerns, worries, questions......however, like Suesquatch said, we cannot give medical advice on Allnurses as stated in the Term of Service.

I encourage you to make up a list of questions to ask your GP as well as the specialist.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us informed about your son.
