Uterus Measurements

I have a question. I was always taught in nursing school that your abdomen measurements coorelated with how many weeks you were pregnant. Well, I am now 30 weeks and at 27 weeks I measured 32 and I just am wondering. Also, I have not gained any weight. I started back in April at 183 and I am 182 now but OB MD states, "Everything is fine". With my first child I only gained 5 lbs the whole pregnancy. Can anyone help me with the measurement question?

Hello, proudmommielpn,

The measurement of the fundal height is a rough estimate utilized to determine the fetal weight. The cm height can be affected by many factors, ie, maternal body build, maternal weight, etc. So, measuring 32 cm at 27 weeks could be a larger than normal fetus, extra amniotic fluid, position of the fetus......any number of factors.

If you are concerned, please contact your OB for clarification. I am sure you are just fine, but, you need that OB's final word.

Just wanted to let you know that I too am pregnant- my doc tells me the same thing. "Everything is ok!"- I've lost 30 pounds during this pregnancy.
I started out overweight (HA! You think I'm telling you how much I weigh on here- not a chance). still am by a bit. However, I worked at Pizza Hut until graduation (got my positive test on graduation day), so I sat on my butt and ate pizza several nights a week. Now I'm working 12 hour shifts where I barely get to sit down, and frequently eat dinner standing up charting. I actually move at work. So weight loss makes sense. I also eat less (no pizza every night).
My doc is not concerned. She monitors baby with ultrasound, and at my last appt (last Friday), she said baby is growing right along schedule!
Just a note to let you know that you're not alone, and apparently, it's not as a big a deal as I was afraid it would be. I thought for sure my doc would freak and put me on TPN or something. The CNA's that check me in always comment though, and it upsets me (my doc and I need to know- like I'm not aware that I've lost weight).
-A

Congrats on your pregnancy!!! So you are having a girl also? I am due on December 5 made it to 30 weeks!:hatparty: This one is so unexpected! I have alopecia and my dermatologist put me on Prednisone back in February and April I found out I was pregnant! My OB says the steroids are the reason. I had to take Lupron to get pregnant with my first daughter and that was almost 2500.00 and my prednisone was maybe 15.00. I wish I would have known that 9 years ago! LOL Note to all if all else fails getting pregnant try Prednisone!

so how are you doing?

Looking for an update, since no one else mentioned the possibility of multiples. I measured 23 at 22 weeks, 28 at 25 weeks and was sent for an u/s at that point. Assured that "if it were twins, you'd be even bigger". As you can see by my username, it was twins.

I have endometriosis and the OB stated that evidentally the Prednisone being a steroid acted like the Lupron. I dunno that's just what he said. No I have had numerous u/s and there is just one child.
