What kind of tape does your facility use for your c/s dressings. Do you do many pressure dressings? Do any of you have a problem with post op blistering from the tape? Thanks for all the input!

We use pre-packaged pressure dressings. They are sticky as heck, so I usually pre-warn patients how hard they are to get off and that taking them off themselves in the shower, good idea. Some patients with delicate skins DO blister at the site (lucky me I am one of them). I find this is very true with people of fair and delicate skin conditions. AGAIN showering and removing a loose dressing is very helpful!

We use that 3M Medipore paper tape. The silky tape has left blisters before.

If a pressure dressing is needed, we use Elastoplast (stretchy like an Ace bandage but very sticky) in place of the tape.

We use 1 strip of 2" tape placed at the lower edge of an ABD. It's the plastic feeling stuff...Durapore? It only touches the skin about an inch on each side. We use abdominal binders pretty often. Not only does it help support but acts as a pressure dressing, too.

We use the Elastoplast too. A lot of patients get irritated skin from it. I think it would be a lot less if residents wouldn't just walk into the room and rip it off. No matter how many times we tell them that they can just write the order and we'll dc the dressing, they insist on ripping the darn thing off. Then they get irritated when we call them for a Neosporin order. I would love to get my patients in the shower to s l o w l y take the dressing off like SBE.
