OMG - night from hell - i need to vent!

I dont even know where to begin, first off let me say that if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen, in otherwords if all you're going to do is ***** and complain and be a total lazy ass on the job then *******' RETIRE, this nurse that has been working since GOD knows when, is about to get on my last nerve, she usually works PP cuz god forbid she actually have to do any work or pt care. BUT last night she had no choice and I got dumped on BIG TIME. At report I got a laboring pre-termer, that we were trying to stop, and 30 min later a scheduled low-dose pit induction, OK fine, life is good i can handle this. Well at 11pm after i had been there for 4 hours this lazy ass, nurse that should have retired 10 years ago comes on and of course is annoyed that she has to do labors to begin with, i forget what all was going on but anyway it was hectic, it takes 4 hours to give her report cuz she's a know-it-all that *****es about policy and talks about random stuff forever. She constantly complains and says why did you do that and why didn't you do that, and that is stupid that we have to do that, and im not doing that, and btw she CAN"T HEAR ANYTHING unless you're screaming at her, so she doesn't answer teh phone and most of the time walks away when you're talkign to her. OMG this is long enough so I'll quit while im ahead but thanks for listening to me vent!!!!!
Oh, Ok so here's what i did last night in 12 hours, had the pre-termer that did quiet down, still had to watch her pattern and give abt and some pain meds, etc. had the induction admitted her, gave her some meds, watched her pattern, she slept some. THEN GOT A VERY ACTIVE patient, admited, epidural,d elivery with NO HELP FROM LAZY NURSE, meanwhile she's "watching" my other patients and taking care of a PP on mgso4 (stable) mind you, get done with my delivery and whadda ya know, ANOTHER ACTIVE pt comes in, GUESS WHO TAKES care of her, well, this nurse knew i was annoyed when she comes in my just delivered pt's room and says "another pt is here would you like me to put her on the monitor?" I said "yes that would be nice, since im a little busy here" OMG i about hit the roof, so she half ass admits the pt, starts iv gives pain meds, then says ok she's yours, with NO paperwork done, i didn't do it, i started charting from the time i got report on the pt, normally im nice and go back and fill in holes and such, oh btw she never bothered to call the ******* doctor and let her know the pt was here OR the pedi since this was a tad early pt, which she didn't bother to tell me either. THis nurse is INEPT, LAZY, SO INCREDIBLY FREAKING SLOW, and a pain in the ass to work with! Im so glad i have 5 days off cuz if i had to work with her again, i think i'd stab her with pitocin in the eye!!!
Ok i promise im done venting now, thanks for listening!!!!

Shelley!! Head over to the cyber bar and have a nice big drink on me!!!

Sounds like your assessment of her abilities is right - time to retire!!

There is nothing more irritating than someone who does NOT do their fair share of the work!!

Glad to hear you have some days off! Relax, enjoy yourself!!!

Smack her upside the head- Why couldn't she take that second patient, you already had 3 to her one....next time she asks you to take report just say, "I think you should keep her, you know her and I'm really busy right now" We'll all be cheering you on.

Girl I know I use to work with her older sister, had to be. There couldn't be more that one family of them could it. We would come to work and she would sit and smoke all night while the rest of us worked.

I think I would report this to your nurse manager, DON, whoever!! That is just not right! It sounds as if it is bordering on unsafe for the patients... not because you can't handle it by any means, but there are standards for how many labor patients, etc, etc....

I definitely wouldn't have filled in the holes on the paperwork either! You didn't admit that patient, so you shouldn't have been required to chart it!

If she is too old, or too HOH, or too "whatever", to do certain things, then she either needs to be put on PP only and have someone else you can call for active patients, or she needs to LEAVE!

Wow.

All I can say is I am really sorry you had such an awful night, I can't even imagine what it is like but thank you for not inflicting her on any patients.
