Hi everyone,
I am a nursing student and graduate in May. I work in Labor and delivery as a student and love it. I don't get to labor patient's, or do triage or circulate for c/s. I get the postpartum patients. I get the patient after the first check, do all mom and baby recovery, then when they are stable I send them to the postpartum unit. I am so anxious to finish school so I can do the rest. Do you all love it? Will the rest meet my expectations? I can't imagine doing anything else.

I do love what I am doing, as an LDRP and Newborn nurse, ( I also do GYN surgical nursing)--- I graduated in 1997, entering OB directly after school.

I graduated this past May and went into L&D in August. I am almost finished with my orientation and so far I am loving it! I think it will be all you are looking for.

Welcome! I too am a new grad who went directly into L/D. Love it!!!! I think it is good that you have some exposure to all of what is going on, it will no doubt help you out after graduation. Good luck w/ the rest of school.

hey i also just graduated in june and started out on ldrp in august. i am so glad i did. everyone tried to scare me. it is hard, and alot to learn, but i feel like i made the right choice. when i was a student we didn't get to do the labor part either, and now i am learning everything. in some ways i feel like a student still, because in school they don't go into detail about ob. hope all your wishes come true.

Looks like alot of us are new OB nurses. I graduated in Dec, and went directly to OB in March. After rotating through SCN, M/B, and L&D, I accepted a FT night position in L&D. Now, we are transitioning back to LDRP's. I get the best of both worlds. I have wanted to be in L&D since I delivered my first son 6 years ago. I LOVE it!

I have been an L/D nurse since July 2002, everyday I learn something new. There has been much stress, happiness, and heartbreak along the way. Welcome to the boards. I have just discovered them myself and it has been an excellent way to not only vent but to realize that so many of us are in the same boat. Seeing that new life come into the world makes it all worth it.

Well, I guess I'm the 'elder' around here. I started in OB as a nursery nurse in . . . 1977!!!
As DH and I have moved 7 times since then I have worked as an instructor, office nurse, school nurse, and home care nurse, BUT ALWAYS return to OB. I can't imagine doing anything else for very long. There have been some bad times and some sad times, but I really love seeing new lives born and helping new families develop.
Good luck to all of you 'newbies' - I hope you get good, patient preceptors and have lots of great learning experiences.
