Question? - Need advice or suggestion for Obstetric Nursing

Hi there

I am an Australian RN with 1 year surgical experience. I moved to Canada in hope to be working as an RN. Although knowing I had to upgrade to Pediatric and Obstetric courses in which I have yet to do and wondering if I should???

I love watching new life come into this world from watching the birthing channels, I feel emotional and happy. However I am not sure if I am able to do this clinical and be expected on the 4th day of the 1st week to be working independently with my preceptor near by (this is what was told to me from a tutor of the college). As most students who have done this Obstetric course according to her were working independently by that stage.

I think the experience of doing this course would be rewarding in the end if all goes well however I am scared of the idea of working in a specialty and be expected to work independently?????

I am just wondering from previous students working on L&D how well they performed and any other info to help me at all make up my mind whether to do this or not?

By the way the clinical practical is two weeks long?

Thank you
