Question Narcotic Pain meds, to give or not to give ???

Is it, or is it not ok to give PRN pain meds up to 30 min. "early" if the patient is in pain and requests it ??? HELP !!!!!

Perhaps rather than giving the pain med early try calling the physician and have him either adjust the level or frequency of pain medication or try something else for example Dilauded for Morphine, or Darvocet for Vicodin etc etc etc...;-)

What does your institutions's medication administration P&P say? What was your assessment of the patient's respiratory status?
