hello all. I went to an info session at Columbia today about their entry to practice program and they have an option of doing a dual whnp/midwifery masters program. Does anyone else know of another school that offers this type of official or unofficial program?(unofficial meaning they have no documented dual program but they will work with an individual with those interests)

Just curious...What would be the benefit of a dual program? Would a whnp program qualify you for any duties not covered in a cnm program?

Well, the program directors said that it offered a comprehensive womens health care provider role-- essentially offering a complete woman's care service from young adult-through her childbearing years including the delivery of her low risk pregnancies, postpartum care for her and baby and through her maturation. It's a way of seeing a woman throughout her life including assisting birth which is something I was told a WHNP would not do. A CNM may/may not see you for regular checkups- their involvement depends alot on the facility and state?? They could only speak to NY and increased marketablity.

Check with Frontier in Kentucky. They offer a distance ed CNM and/or WHNP. You can take either or, if you take the CNM and one extra class, you qualify to sit for the WHNP boards also.

Rock On Anita!!!
Frontier is extremely accessible and has a rich history in Midwifery. I would recommend that you check it out for yourself. I think they utilize Case Western Reserve University for coursework as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Best of luck.
(YES...My future plans are to become a CNM/WHNP )
