Re: LPN to lactation consultant?

You may wish to ask this question over on the Ob/Gyn Forum. Perhaps some of the L&D and postpartum nurses over there have LPN lactation consultants working at their hospitals and birthing centers, and therefore could answer your question accurately. Click on the link below to get to the Ob/Gyn forum, and good luck!

In addition, a couple of LPNs on this forum work in mother-baby units, so perhaps they'll see this thread and answer your question in the very near future.

Yes. Being an RN is not a requirement for certification as a lactation consultant.

Good luck!

Hello, cinder06, and welcome to allnurses.com

Good to have you with us!!

I moved your thread to the OB-GYN forum for a better response.

Yes, the LPN can become a lactation consultant. You can also be certified as a breastfeeding counselor (CBC):

http://www.ilca.org/education/ibclcsteps.php - lactation consultant association/certification as IBCLC

You don't even have to be a nurse to be a lactation consultant, though it helps IMO. I see sirI already beat me to posting the ILCA website though.
