L&D Manager Interview

What kind of questions do they ask in a management interview? I can imagine a few but for those of you that have been through that interview I'd love some insight. Also...what's a definate no no while interviewing?

Re: L&D Manager Interview

I can't speak to the management part.... but I do have to say, since the "nursing shortage" has become an issue, recent interviews that I have had seem to be "shedding the rules" of the 'old days' lol
all the old no-no's don't seem to hold fast anymore - I think its more cultural now to each hospital than any steadfast rules. My last interview (successful btw) was so laid back I was almost scared that I wasn't even in contention for the position - it was just chatting back and forth!

Of course, experienced nurses are in short supply here so if your references check out, you can pretty much get any job you try for!

Re: L&D Manager Interview

I went for many interviews, so here's my experience. They ranged from very scrutinizing to just a formality, ie, unless I started naked dancing in front of the NS, I got the job. There is a tendency for the private, more "prestigious" hospitals to be more selective. Be prepared for that, by recalling what you learnt about L&D, or what you know, and the usual "why do you want to be in L&D?" question.

Good luck.
ps. btw, if asked "what do you do if you are having problems with your coworkers that is affecting your job performance?", the answer is "go to the manager."

Re: L&D Manager Interview

Be open to change... show your creative side... give examples of how you have acted as a change agent in the past...
Managers are looked upon as leaders, but we all know that not all leaders are (or should be) managers. Its a VERY important but often misunderstood position, because you will have duties that the staff won't know about or understand.
GOOD LUCK with your interview!
