I just want a clear decision!!!

So I am halfway through my LDR orientation and I am thinking I might hate it. I like my coworkers and the doctors but I think I just don't like the job. I am thinking about returning to postpartum which i previously did for 5 years. My preceptor assures me I am picking up on things very quickly and she is very positive about me, but what I can't determine is whether or not I will ever enjoy it. I was perfectly happy with my PP job but felt I should try something new while still wanting to remain in OB.
I feel like i dread going to work. At first I brushed the feeling off as I was just not familiar with the unit/skills, but now that I am functioning more independently and still feel the same way.
Once I finally admitted to myself that I wanted to possibly go back to postpartum it felt like 10 tons off my chest.
Any advice on either returning to PP or how to get myself to like LDR???

in the first place, you wanted change...here it is....but you're not happy...then go back where you're happy...you're still a fully functional nurse when you were at post partum, so go back where you work best...you will radiate that happiness and fulfillment to everybody and still get paid...

Re: I just want a clear decision!!!

Hello

My first post on here!

I was just skimming some posts because I am a new grad in the ER and even though the staff is great and the patients are great, I am just not sure that ER is where I want to be. Maybe it's the pace? I have been considering making a change but not sure to where. I thought OR or OB would be good, as they were my first instinct in nursing school.

For your case though, why is it that you left the first department in the first place? My advice is to go back to the first department or find another new place. I am starting that feeling of dread too, and one of our group leaders told me that it is just not right to be going in to work every day with that feeling.

Why 'get' yourself to like it? I would definitely go with what you like. I hate that feeling of dread...your whole outlook on life gets warped when you aren't happy. So be happy...and if you were happy where you were, go back! (That, of course, is contingent on WHY you left. If the need to leave was stronger than the feelings of fulfillment...then the advice changes. )

Re: I just want a clear decision!!!

Thanks for all the advice. I did quit and transferred to another postpartum unit. I feel good about my decision. I knew I made the right decision when I was 5 weeks into my 8 week orientation and I had yet to circulate in the OR for a c/s. NOT SAFE!
