I applied for an OB/Delivery position!

Wish me luck! I interviewed almost two weeks ago and still have not heard back yet from the Nurse manager. She was on vacation all last week so I am hoping that's why. I have 3 years Critical care exp plus personal experience with delivery as I have a 10 month old son. I've been an RN for almost 8 yrs now. I have always wanted to work Labor/Delivery and when I saw the opening posted at my hospital, I just HAD to put in for the transfer. The interview went well and the Nurse manager said, don't be surprised if you don't hear from me right away. They expect to remodel the entire dept within the next few years, new LDRP suites, the whole bit! I REALLY want this job! So please keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks!

I wish you the best of luck. I started out much the same way. I had been a critical care nurse, then my baby came along and all I wanted to do was L/D. I noticed a position open and took the chance and applied. I waited MONTHS before they called me and they offered me a job. Best thing I ever did!!!!!!! Now it has been 10 years and I still love it.

Critical Care gives you a nice background for labor and delivery. I hope you get it.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! I left the ICU for L&D a little over a year ago...and it was the best decision I've ever made!

Good luck!

This past week, on Wednesday, I ran into the L&D nurse manager in the cafeteria and asked her about my transfer. She told me that she's definitely interested in bringing me aboard the team but that they are still working on getting more positions opened up. Then on Friday, I ran into the Nurse Manager for the Mother/Baby unit while I was up there visiting a co-worker who had just delivered her little girl and she was telling me how they need to hire more nurses, so I had to pipe up and mention that I put in for the Labor and Delivery position. She said that she did see my name and as she was walking down the hall, turned to me and said, I hope to get you up here soon! :hatparty:

My hospital is planning on redesigning their OB services so they are gonna need more help and they are building 15-17 LDRP suites so all OB nurses will have to know delivery and postpartum care of mother and newborns! So this will be an exciting time to join the team. I have ALWAYS wanted OB! So, if I don't hear from anyone in aother month or so, then I'll contact the nurse managers again, just so they don't forget about me but not so often that I'm not being pesky.

Well, I didn't get the position

They didn't come flat out and tell me that but they did say they took someone with previous OB experience and to check back with them later this year when they have more positions available.

There was a Mother/Baby position open which wasn't posted. The Director of L&D/Post-partum gave that position to one of her buddies that worked on one of the med-surg floors. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about that. One of the bad things about working at a non-union facility. That would NEVER fly in a unionized hospital!

So, we'll see.

Sorry to hear this news.

But you will start your campign to join this unit by
1. Attending any CE classes offered in department.
2. Finding out unit requirments for training: PALS, neonatal resuscitaion etc
3. Do they ever pull nurses to unit --OFFER to be pulled to care for post delivered patients.

OK Smiling what else can she do to get into this unit???
