Happy with my job

Hi all, I'm trying to really get into reading here b/c the board has always been a great source of information for me. Anyway, I graduated nursing school in July of last year, took the NCLEX in August and started working in September in a high level NICU. I did not like it there very shortly in to it, was upset all the time so I opted to try and find a postpartum job closer to home. I found a great opporttunity in the hospital where I attended school so I was super excited.

I'm off orientation , have been off for a few weeks now and while yes it is scary and yes its so busy sometimes I forget to pee, I do like my job. Now that being said - I would MUCH rather spend all my time home with my son like I did the first two years of his life but if I have to work (and I do LOL) I am thankful and glad that I found a job that I like and the coworkers are great too.

I pray that I always like it, I know in the future I want to further my education and maybe become an LC or a nurse educator but for now I'm just thankful to like where I work and to not be crying before starting work each day (like I did in the NICU). I am happy to work with postpartum moms and newborns.

I think one day I might want to cross train into the L and D side of things but I'm not ready for that yet.

Re: Happy with my job

Contratulations on finding a position that you love. Sometimes it takes awhile to find where we really fit in. I loved working OB! Sounds like you will be a WONDERFUL nurse for your patients!

Re: Happy with my job

I'm happy for you!

although I did not start like you, I went straight to a floor that I love, I too am very happy with my job.

I happen to work at an all pediatric hospital. I love peds, so whenever I float, I still have my pediatric patients.

I love the patients, and the parents do not annoy me like most people told me before starting my job there.

when my baby was admitted, the nurse there told me great advice..... to always keep the patient informed regarding the POC. and I do. So far, never had problems (knock on wood)

Patty, RN

Re: Happy with my job

How wonderful to see someone who is genuinely happy and enjoying their job! Maybe there is hope...

Seriously, I'm very happy to see someone who loves their job. Getting into LC or education is a natural progression to that, or even L&D. I've been in L&D since grad, and while I love the work, the unit politics at present are driving me insane. However, the girls that I work with who have come from postpartum did great and love it.

Thank you for telling us your story!
