just testing the waters here...I am considering becoming a GC for a good friend and her husband. Does anyone have experience being a GC, or caring for one during L&D or PP?

you mean surrogate?
Well, yes I have taken care of a surrogate mom in labor.
what specifically can i help you with here?
(as a labor/delivery nurse)
I have never been one, so no personal experience do I have to share.
good luck on your decision; make sure you research this thoroughly before entering into it. I wish you well!

Surrogates donate their egg. Gestational carriers do not donate any gametes and have the fertilized zygote inserted into the uterus by IVF.

I worked in fertility for several years. I'm not in that particular area of OB-GYN now.
Has she been to the Doc yet? The Doc may want to and should refer you two (three?) for some specialized counseling. This is a good idea and will help you think about areas or situations that may not have occured to you. If everyone involved in the situation has clear cut expectations, roles, and goals, these situations can go very well.
You are a generous person to consider carrying for someone. Do investigate the possibility with someone trained and experienced in the area to prevent future complications. There have been some very unusual legal/moral/ethical complications in the field of fertility.
Best Wishes!

Thanks for the post Texagain, we have already had a session with the MD/infertility specialist and I have a whole list of questions for the next time I get together with the Mom to be. If you think of anything else, please let me know.
