Elevated Testosterone

I have some questions. I went to the Dr on Tue. because of amenorreha for 3 years. I had been to a previous Dr which blew me off. Anyhow he did some blood work: TSH, FSH, LH, Lipids, Free Testosterone, and a CBC with complete chemistry. Every thing came back normal except for the free testosterone which was elevated. My question is what could be going on. I am not pregnant (virgin) no STD's. Any info is appreciated!

I am wondering if you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome???? You really need to ask your about specifics; no one can take the place of your dr/healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and/or treatment. In case you wonder what PCOS is:

good luck and take care.

Pcos

Yeah, I have that too. Or I guess I do... not really sure. Well my testasterone is elevated and some doctor said it was PCOS. Not fun. Try to lose weight that usually helps if not then there is some medicine for it.
Try to act soon becuase if you don't you are going to get hairy... oh yeah and emotionally ify. It's really not fun. I suggest you check it out with a doc to make sure its PCOS and not some other hormonal imbalance.
Good luck.

Thanks for the site. I have been doing research on PCOS for a while. I go back to the Dr on Tues. I got my lab results early because I work at the same hospital He started me on Provera 10 mg for 10 days last Tues. I have 1 more pill and we will see what that brings. Thanks for the info!

Sounds like PCOS to me, but just going on Provera isn't the answer. It might bring on your period but it won't solve the problem in the long run. You should make an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist. He/she will run lots of labs not only hormone-related, but also relating to glucose metabolism. My regular doctor didn't believe I had PCOS, even though I have all the textbook signs of it, because my labs were normal. Even with the endocrinologist, every single lab he did WAS in normal range - so when I went for my follow-up visit to discuss labs I was doubtful he'd believe I had PCOS either. But he took all those "normal" labs and saw a major pattern (I was either at the top or bottom of all the ranges, never in the middle) and said if I hadn't been on the Pill (to prevent large cysts) for years, that I'd have been off the charts abnormal in my labs. Finally, someone believed me!

The current treatment most women get for PCOS is some kind of birth control pill (if they want to prevent pregnancy, otherwise it's often not necessary), glucophage (to regulate glucose metabolism), and spironolactone (to decrease testosterone levels). Many women find that being on glucophage alone brings back their regular periods!

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. My gynecologist is a great DR. I work in Labor and Delivery with him, so I trust him 110%. I have an appointment with him On March 15th. I am not trying to get pregnant, but I want children when I am married.
