EFM and cardiotocography

Hi all,

Just curious is anyone knows the difference between electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) and cardiotocography? Are they the same?

Thanks!

Re: EFM and cardiotocography

Cardiotocography is a type of electronic fetal monitoring (EFM)…

External ultrasound transducers detect movement (of the heart valves) via sound waves (an artificial sound is generated by the monitor). While spiral electrodes transmit a direct fetal electrocardiogram into the fetal monitor - - it measures the fetal heart rate.
