Hi Guys, Im 23 and recently had a Ductal Carcinoma in Situ removed from my right breast. ive had a little trouble getting info on this benign breast disease, can anyone help me out? any info is appreciated. Thanks

First of all, DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) is not a benign disease. It is a malignancy. In Breast Cancer there are five stages of disease and DCIS is Stage 0 and has the best prognosis. DCIS is a malignancy that has not gone through the basement membrane, there is no invasion. DCIS is also known as non-invasive ductal carcinoma. It is best to have a consultation with not only one or two surgeons but the radiation oncologist and medical oncologist. This is one of the main reasons that we do screening mammogram to find those malignancies that are still at Stage 0. Your young age will also make a difference on what treatment will be recommended for you.
