Cutting through the crap

Does anyone else notice when they go out in the community that people are so full of poopy when it comes to labor and birth... Now whether they mean to tell tall tales or just don't have a CLUE I don't know. ,,,,,, Here's is a for example..... My husbands cousin is having her second baby. first one was a FTD slash stat C/S for NRFHP during the second stage. Well, she is currently 36 weeks PG and she called me last week to talk about what was going on with her she was 5 and "1/2" cms and was given Terbutaline (35weeks at this point) and sent home... I thought that that sounded funny b'c she was dilated so far (according to HER) and was sent home preterm... oh and BTW the baby is breech... So I am doubting all of this and then she calls me a week later and she is now 7-8 cm's breech and at HOME??? Not having discernable UC's but STILL!!! I just thnk this is a crock!!! IT HAS to be.... It's one of those things you KNOW isn't true and you just want to calll them on it but you just CAN'T outright but you can HINT. Does anyone else notice things like this ....or things that are misconstrued by lay people that may either make you cringe or laugh depending upon your mood????

The one's that irritate me are the one's who say "and the Doctor told me to have an abortion, but look at him/her now!". O.K., I wasn't in the room, but I'm pretty sure that's not what the Doc said. I have no doubt that's what you recall, but..

I know right ? Like any doctor would really say such a thing.... I also remember hearing about a girl who was "crowning" in the ER but by the time she got transported to Land D she was only 3 cms .... boy was she mad :-)

I think some of the things folks say are proof of "The IQ-Reducing Hormones Secreted by Placentas"! (an infamous column by Dave Barry)

The above are good but here's a whopper. I don't work OB.
My friend almost at due date phone's She said I must come to her house something is wrong. Of course I bite. She said she was just at the hospital and the DR. sent her home. I say what is the problem. She says the babies foot is sticking out and that the Doctor told her to go home until the morning. I go over to calm her down. Of course I see no foot. Spent the whole night there as she was hysterical. Feel that is a contraction etc. What a night.

Well, actually I know several people who have had drs. tell them in no uncertain terms that they should terminate (and this is for diagnosis that are *not* incompatible with life). I actually have a friend who is an RN, husband is an MD--when the baby was diagnosed prenatally with Trisomy 21 the parents asked the OB the sex--he replied, "Is that really relevant since you'll obviously be terminating anyway?"

So, yes, many, many drs. have said such things.
