Cleft Palate/Breastfeeding

Does anyone know what the Ten TEn TEn Rule means with cleft palate, is it related to infant weight, months of age prior to having surgery. Also any tips to breastfeeding moms with infants with cleft palates.

Re: Cleft Palate/Breastfeeding

Google "cleft palate" and "brestfeeding." You will find many resources. Here is a user-friendly one.

Hope this helps.

The Rule of Tens refers to the minimum criteria often used for cleft lip surgery: age >10 weeks, weight >10 pounds, Hb >10.

Here's one link that mentions it:

Re: Cleft Palate/Breastfeeding

This page has a lot of resources for breastfeeding and cleft palate.

I have not worked with cleft palate babies as an LC, but the severity of the cleft will affect feeding (of course). I would suggest finding a good LC with experience or specialty of cleft palate babies.
If you are interested, you could pm or email me with your approximate location and I could maybe recommend someone for you.
