Can you get hired into L&D right out of nursing school?
|
|
Hi there!
Will hospitals hire nurses into L&D just out of nursing school? Will it help that I will have been a birth doula for 6 years by the time I am done with school?
I live in a "hospital city" that has two huge hospitals that always seem to be hiring (according to their websites) but I'm afraid that I will complete my degree and not be able to get a job in L&D. What do you think?
Thanks!

I'm graduating this month and several of my classmates are going straight into L&D. With the current shortage most hospitals are accepting new grads in all areas. Good luck!

I was hired into L&D right out of school. I know some hospitals do not hire new grads for labor though.

I am in an ADN program and have just finished the first two semesters and graduated with my LPN and will return in the fall for my RN. I was just offered a job in L&D the other day. It is an RN position, but since I will be continuing my education, I qualify. HTH.

You can, but in Ontario, it is not as easy to get into as a new grad as some of the states.

I'm in Ontario. At my local hospital you start in PP first, then get cross trained for L&D. Some nurses have had to work PP for over 5 years waiting for their turn on L&D.
