on call pay for Cesarean sections

I work at a small hospital that does approx. 600 births per yr. We are training our staff (cross trained in lr/dr/nursery/pp) to circulate for Cesarean sections. Would you please give me some input on what your units pay for compensation to be on call for C-sections and approx. how many hrs a week do you take call? Do your part timers take equal amounts of call as your full time employees? Our nursing staff consisits of approx. 11 full time employees and 9 part time employees. Several years ago we implimented a closed unit in that we didn't get pulled to the other depts if our census was low but in return we agreed to do contigency staffing and flex down our hours if needed. We each agreed to take on call hours (without pay)approx 20-24 hrs per 2 week period in addition to our scheduled hrs. If we did get called in we would get time and half for the extra hours we worked. Several members of our staff would like this changed and I would appreciate any input from other hospitals, thanks for your time.

Re: on call pay for Cesarean sections

Your OB dept sounds almost exactly like ours, except we must have 2 OB nurses in the bldg at all times. If no ob patients the staff is floated out to other depts. If our census is high then we will then begin the oncall rotation, we get 4.00 an hour for being on call and if called in we get time and a half. We only do the oncall for 12 hours increments. So Sally may be oncall from 7a-7p then Suzy is on call from 7p-7a.

Most of our staff will sign up for call time, so it is mainly a voluntary thing.

Re: on call pay for Cesarean sections

We get 3.00/hr when on call. Double time and 1/2 if called in from 3a-7a, Time and 1/2 all other times. Full and Part time must take same amount, Per Diem does not since they already get premium pay. We are on a rotating call schedule and must take approx 16 hours in 4 weeks (4 hour increments) Approx 1200 births/year. At my other job, 3.00/hr, scheduled in 24hour increments every 4 weed schedule. Time and 1/2 if called in.
