Business major interested in nursing

I am a Marketing major right now in college. I am a junior. I have been thinking for awhile about being a L&D nurse. Is it possible for me to graduate with my business degree and then go to school for nursing alone, without having to take all of my gen eds all over again? I would love to be a nurse, especially working in labor and delivery. I am just wondering how easy it will be for me once I've graduated. Thanks!!

Re: Business major interested in nursing

Hi there!

There are many accelerated nursing programs around the country. They are programs for people who already have a B.A, who want to obtain a BSN. You will need to complete a variety of pre-reqs, but you will not need to take gen-eds again. These programs take about 1- 1 1/2 years to complete.

Hope that was helpful.

Re: Business major interested in nursing

I had my BA before I decided to go to nursing school. I went through a hospital-based associates degree program (affiliated with one of the local universities) and was done in 21 months. I had to take classes that I hadn't had to take for my BA (Microbiology, A&P, etc.), but general psych, writing classes, etc. I did not have to retake.

Nursing is a great field. Very rewarding. You're also almost always guarranteed a job, and there are so many different options within nursing. . .

Good luck!
