Best Stethoscope for Mother-Baby

Hello everyone,

I was wondering what is the best Littmann stethoscope for Mother/Baby. I don't want to have to purchase another in the near future, so which one is the best for assessing Moms and newborns? I kind of need one by this weekend, so your quick input is appreciated

Thanks.
Fizz

I like my Littman cardiology. But Really to hear BEST a newborn's heart, a pedi size steth is best.

I'm a "speciallty hopper" but mostly I do peds so I have an ADC pediatric scope (nearly identical to the Littmann, but a little cheaper.) I love it and it goes to every specialty I go including postpartum and nursery. It's the obvious choice for kids and babies but workd just fine with adults, too. It's basicaly a small Classic II, which means I hear all the same sounds but it's lighter to carry and doesn't hurt as much when I bend down and the bell knocks me in the head
I'm not sure what you're doing "this weekend" but you might not need to run out and buy anything some nurseries and most NICUs provide stethoscopes for all staff to use and prefer that you not bring in your own, in which case you can use your regular one for the moms.

Make sure the unit doesn't already supply them for the staff. Ours does and none of us has to have our own unless we want to.

I went ahead and ordered an Adscope Pediatric. I hope it works well with adults and infants. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a littman that has two different size diaphragms. One is small and the other large. I love it because I work with newborns to adults. It was kind of expensive though. Check EBAY that is where I got mine for quite a bit cheap and it was brand new. I am not sure of the actual model name but is is one of the cardiology ones.

I also use a Littman pediatric. If I ever have to do an involved mom assessment, I use one of the unit scopes. But most of my day, I assess heart lung and bowel sounds on babies. It is hard to hear a murmur, unless it is profound, on a baby with an adult diaphragm due to all of the background noises.

It's not a Littmann, but the stethoscope I would recommend would be the Ultrascope Duo. It comes with your choice of an adult size head a pediatric size and a neonate size. It has the best sound quality of any stethoscope I've every used and it can also be personalized to help prevent theft and also express our own unique personalities.
