Best compliment ever!!

Today I ran to the Verizon store really quickly to grab a phone...didn't take time to shower and had greasy hair pulled into a ponytail. As I was dickering with the store employee, a couple came up to me and asked if my name was XXXX, I said yes, (embarrassed about my appearance!!) and they said we knew it...you delivered our baby. The ladies eyes welled up with tears and she reviewed her experience with me. (The FHR dropped into the 40s and we couldn't get it to come up with interventions, Doc wanted her rushed to the OR for a crash and by the time the Doc got there, FHR was up so we watched her and ended up taking her back to her room later where she delivered a healthy little girl!) She said that she was so grateful, and that "even when you were running down the hall pushing my bed, you were completely calm and reassuring, and you'll never know how much you meant to me, I'll never forget you!" Whew, what a compliment!!! I've walked on clouds all day long! I guess I've always wondered if people remember you after the experience if over a while, and this was 8 months ago.

Sorry it's long, but I had to share that one!

That is what nursing is all about. Some of my worst days have been turned around by a family member thanking me for doing some little thing for their mom or dad or some resident hugging me and telling me they loved me and how special I was. For me that made it all worthwhile.

Way to go. You epitomize what labor nursing is supposed to be all about. I love compliments like that. Frankly, they are what keep me going in the field. It sure is NOT the Money or NICE doctors (rofl). You apparently touched the family in a way few people ever do. Keep up your wonderful work! You make a difference!

Cool!

These are the moments I try to remember when I'm having a bad day. I have 4-5 patients a day, and it will be difficult for me to remember most of their names in a week, or a month, or a year.

If you're good, they'll always remember your name!

That is great! People are so quick to complain, it's nice to hear compliments when they're deserved.

WOO HOO!!! You go!!

For the record - I remember my nurses' names from all three of my births!!

Lucy, Leslie, and Polly

Lucy had really long beautiful hair and she was so sweet to me!! She held my long hair back while I "hurled" and held my hand when I was being wheeled in for an emer. c-section.

Leslie figured out that I knew "some stuff" about L&D and didn't "dumb down" her communications with me. She was really nice to my hubby who was nasty to her (jerk).

Polly saved me from certain "suffering" by figuring out that my youngest was "caught" and a simple position change 'fixed" everything!! (The MD was just sitting there watching, no comments, nuthin' - he said about 5 words - he wasn't my usual doc) She was awesome!!!

Therefore, I hope to leave an impression - a good one - on my patients in the future!!! Since I know there's a chance they will remember my name

I once had a couple who came in to OB and brought me flowers on their daughter's first birthday. It was the sweetest thing and I'll never forget it.

I think you and we are all doing what we do for a reason. Its' as if God knew we should be on the calming end of things, and reminds us whenever it seems to be just too much. Really proud and happy for you. You deserve it! Way to go!

That's great!!! It is so awesome to get a compliment like that.... We need to remember these times when we THINK we aren't bonding or helping the pt as much as we do others b'c sometimes we touch them and we don't even know it. We usuallynever see them again but times like these when we do and they tell us how much we meantto them is when the whole thing is worth all the blood sweat and tears.... I am so glad for you.... Keep up the great work.....
