AROM at -2 station?

A resident decided to do an AROM on my pt at 8/90/-2. I asked her if the head was engaged, and she said yes. My question is, is she right? I though the head was engaged only at 0 station, and anything above that would risk a cord prolapse? Can someone clarify please?

Re: AROM at -2 station?

Hi, I never had a real issue with station, the kid was either high, low, i was taught that the wide part of the head at the spines is 0 station, so, you could have caput well applied to the cervix and be -2 and have no risk of prolapse, i do, however take issue with practitioners that can't keep their hands out of the vagina and arom too early (which is approx 98% of them). I would love to know how others determine station.

Re: AROM at -2 station?

Yeah, it's mystery to me. I had encountered this earlier, and in fact asked a similar question in this from, but this time, I actually point blank made the physician verbalized she was doing and AROM at -2, in a way of querying her decision without alarming the pt. She flustered a little, and then changed it to -1. So she doesn't appear to be to confident either. oy vey. I hate to think I am standing by while the baby is put at risk.
