Hello I am new to this board. I am a high risk anteprtum nurse that works at a level 3 tertiary center. I am just looking to network, tell stories. My unit is rather unique as most antepartum units I have heard of also do post partum/couplet we do not. We are also not labor and delivery nurses, unless they need one on one care we have them. Just want to know how many people are out there.

Welcome! I'm an L&D nurse, but do get pulled to our high risk antepartum unit occassionally. I don't mind the antepartums, however this floor also takes post partum/couplet care overflow. Now that is NOT my cup of tea, but I really like where I work, and my fellow staff members so I deal w/it!

I am currently a clinical coordinator for a level 2 Labor and delivery unit, that somedays I swear functions as a level 3. we take in all kinds or highrisk from pre-eclamptics to patients in DKA. I constantly voice my concerns to upper management and the medical staff, but ob doc's and MFM doc's seem to think they can handle anything. Our hospital currently does not have a high-risk antepartum so all pregnant patients no matter what the diagnosis get sent to my unit. Right now I am fighting a up-hil battle, but nevertheless I would love to hear or share high-risk stories.

Welcome to the boards. Not HIGH risk, but we do pre-eclamptics, Diabetic drips, etc. We are a Level 2 here, community hospital that does roughly 750-800 deliveries in an LDRP setting each year. We also do all gyn surgical patients, as well.

No offense I had to laugh, We do about 700 or so a month. Our record was 747. I know we did over 8000 for the year how much over that I don't know.

Well I would prefer my measly 750/year to 700 a month. I have a choice, seeing as we have several level 3 facilities in my metro area. Just me, but we get to know our patients very well this way with fewer deliveries. And I would not trade LDRP for just L and D any day....ah but, to each his or her own. Good day!

It is not measly 750 a year. It is just hard for me to imagine. I do know what you are saying though about getting to know your patients. Like I said in my original post I work in a high risk antepartum unit so our patients stay anywhere from a day to 3 months. I like getting to know my patients and seeing the same names on the board.

I'm just wondering why it is not your cup of tea? I am thinking about trying to get a job on a PP unit after I graduate and I'd like to know more about it...
