Would like to hear from anyone who employs themself

So, has anyone ventured out on their own outside traditional employment confines. I don't mean just IC status for a single company. I mean, has anyone started their own clinic, business, ect.

What was that like?

What were the steps?

What were the barriers (real and imagined)?

What state?

Start up costs?

How long to break even?

How long to make profit?

I am thinking about leaving my beloved ER setting for my own thing. Clinic, consultant, locums work, just something that feels a little more free. Where the responsibilities are mine, the accountability is all mine, the decisions are mine.

Any thoughts?
