NP & PA - Still work on the floor?

If I go to FNP school without stopping after I get my BSN, do I have to begin work as a FNP or can I still continue to work as a RN?

Will I forget how what I learned in school? If I work in the ER, do I still get to start IV's and use my other skills? Call me weird, but I like doing a lot the nursing skills and I want to be a nursing clinical instuctor, so I don't want to forget.

I do want to work as an FNP, but not until I've worked as an RN for a while.

Re: Still work on the floor?

See what your nurse practice act says and also I would contact your hospital's risk management office. They would be the ones with the final say so. Good luck.
