Question? - NP Transferable from State to State?

I'm considering becoming an NP and currently work in NYC. Can anyone tell me their experiences with getting an NP degree in one state and then looking for work in another? I am concerned that the older I become (I'm 38), the more difficult it will be to re-establish myself professionally in another city.

Thanks for any replies.

Re: NP Transferable from State to State?

I am a CNS, not an NP, so I'm not sure how helpful my info will be, but I was educated in a different state, then returned to my home state after graduation. A few years later, I moved to another (third) state, practiced as a psych CNS for a few years, and eventually returned to my home state. I've had no problems transferring my advanced practice licensure & practice from one state to another, although, of course, there are some variations in the role/scope of practice/autonomy from one state to another and you are bound by the regulations of the state in which you're practicing.

Like elkpark pointed out, one must be aware of the scope of practice in each state as it relates to the APN.

Just contact the state BON to which you wish to apply for licensure. I, too, have had no issues with this.
