I currently live in Tennessee and would like to become a NP. Ultimately, I would like to open a small rural clinic, possibly providing a large portion of my services to the Amish. I am familiar with one community in particular, and they say they would very much like to have such a person close by, and proceeded to tell me all the ways this would be a great help to them, which leaves me wondering what my scope of practice would be as a FNP.
They mentioned a farmer who cut his hand and had to travel a great distance to get stitches, having to make day long trips to town when someone has the flu, and most of all, they need someone to help birth babies.
It isn't my sole interest to be a midwife, but on the other hand I would not mind providing this service if I was qualified.
Just wondering if someone knows the guidelines of just how much a NP can do? I assume I would have to find a doctor who would be willing to sponsor me. I'm in the beginning stages of this and am trying to develop a plan for action. Any help is appreciated.
