I know that an md is required for an np to open and operate a clinic, but is there a specific kinda md? For example, can an fnp run a clinic under the supervision of a dermatologist or must he have a certain type of md that is specialized in his field? I hope this make some sense to you all and all response are greatly appreciated!

Thanx a bunch
Dean

Most states require a MD or DO, specialty doesn't matter. Some states do not require a MD/DO at all. Keep in mind this is a practice law, not a clinic ownership law. To own your own clinic, no matter what the state, just requires a bunch of money. You can hire the doc and the np or you can be the doc or the np.

"In 12 states and the District of Columbia, NPs are categorized as having prescriptive authority for controlled substances, "independent of any direct physician involvement".5 In five of these twelve states (Montana, New Hampshire, Utah, Washington and Wyoming), NPs are still required to have indirect physician involvement, such as a joint practice agreement, physician chart review, or a consultation and referral plan."
