New NP coping skills

Greetings,

I am a new NP 3 months into my first job and experiencing a lot of anxiety about diagnosis and treatment decisions. I would love to hear from others about their first year of practice and coping skills for the role transition to NP.

Thanks, Dawn

Re: New NP coping skills

Do you think your anxiety is due to the way NPs are educated?

Re: New NP coping skills

I can not speak to all NP education but I would have benefited from more clinical hours and practical experience in my program (or perhaps a residency). I have 7 years of RN experience and wonder how the straight RN to NP folks manage. What are your opinions on NP education?

Another contributing factor in my case is I trained in a suburban area and my program focused on non-urgent ambulatory care clinical experiences while my first job is in a very rural area where my role is much broader.

Hello, abrafnp,

Here is a link to the thread "NP w/no desire for RN". You will see a variety of answers on this topic.
