Question MSN FNP at University of Memphis

I am contemplating attending the University of Memphis for my masters in FNP. I am not sure about their graduate program. I know it is fairly new program begun within the last 2 years. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this program and whether it is a good idea to attend or not. I would be starting in the Spring. I am not sure if it is reputable or whether it would be a better idea to attend another university for FNP. I am not sure how it ranks. All I know that it requires 500 clinical hours in order to graduate and it available on line or on campus. Please help!!!!!! Plus are all programs the same since technically everyone has to take the same certification in the end to become a FNP?

Hello, Dulcedragon,

I'm sorry, but, I do not have any information regarding this program. Have you inquired about other programs? Just curious, what made you choose this program????

Re: MSN FNP at University of Memphis

I attended the U of M for their accelerated BSN. I get out in December. I am also in what they term Generic Masters which is a direct entry program only with a different name. I can either opt out and stop or continue for the MSN portion. I am not sure if this is a reputable MSN. I do not want to jeopardize my chances in the future for a job by attending a no name place for the MSN which may not be any good. I am just not sure what to do. It would be nice to continue, yet at the same time I am worn out with school and afraid at the same time of the U of M. I have talked to about 3 students from the program and some say good things and other say bad things about it.

Hello, again,

Is it the U of M at Lowenberg?

I would think you need to have a better representation of the graduates in order to make a more informed opinion about the reputation of the university. That is JMHO.

I know that most employers are only concerned if the program is accredited and that you have passed the cert and have a license to practice.

Now, some employers will look at from where you received your MSN and if there were two candidates with identical qualifications, the more popular institution graduate would more than likely be chosen.

Honestly, I would not blame you if you stayed where you are. You should be familiar with the administration, and, maybe you can even speak with some of the instructors concerning your hesitation???????

Again, JMHO.
