There are many issues facing advanced practice nurses today. What are your thoughts regarding this?

Is there a particular issue that you feel is of great importance? Why is this issue important to you?

Do you think the issue is in the process of becoming resolved? Is there anything that you believe should be done to further resolve the issue?

Ullnurse - I think there are many issues affecting APN practice in the US today:

1. The reimbursement issue is the biggest IMHO. In order to be lucrative in a private practice, you have to produce revenue. The way Medicare/Medicaid reimburses for in-hospital care for the mid-level practitioner is difficult to navigate. In the outpatient realm, it is much easier to generate income for the practice.

2. (My personal mission): We as nurses have to be united. We are NURSES first and mid-level providers second. It is not beneath me to ask a patient if I can do something for them before I leave the room. Yesterday, I ordered this patient's breakfast menu - took 30 seconds of my time but the nursing staff was very appreciative and the pt didn't have to wait.
