Question? - How do you feel about...?

A few months ago, while researching the DNP subject, I stumbled across the student doctor network and some very offensive posts about NPs, nurses, and the DNP movement. A link was posted in a different thread, but erased, I think because it didn't directly relate, in the opinion of the moderator, to the topic being discussed. I think it is related in some ways however, because of the way some in the medical profession disparages the nursing profession. I am just wondering what peoples feelings were about this, since there is a move to get people to become nurses. Since these views exist (within the medical profession) and are so hurtful and even hateful, how does nursing expect to gain the respect it seeks if it does not address these views? Is it fair to advertise nursing as a respectable and rewarding profession if in fact nurses are intimidated and denigrated by many members of the medical profession? Thanks for the insight.

Re: How do you feel about...?

There is a discussion thread about the DNP here:

Doctoral degree to become an NP???

AMA approves doctor of nursing certification

And, others are on the boards at allnurses.com

If members wish to visit SDN and read these offensive posts, they can. But, posting direct links here at allnurses.com and discussing their viewpoints is something we discourage for it really adds nothing positive about APNs in general and the DNP specifically. And, most of the "opinions" are rude, condescending, and really solve nothing.

Again, if others wish to read their "opinions", they can.

Will close this thread as is redundant. Please carry on the DNP discussion in the above thread.

If one wishes to start a thread about individuals entering nursing, but w/o the SDN inference, please do so. But, we respectfully ask that SDN links be left out.........

Thank you.
