Has anyone had any experience with this drug? It sounds good to me but my co-workers don't want to use it.

Both my mother in law and a co worker have been using this med. The coworker is a gal who was on insulin after having numerous bouts with prednisone...has been using this with good results and some weight loss.

My MIL has been using this med for some time now, I would say she has more of a metabolic syndrome and they have not classified her as a diabetic. She does not check blood sugars, but now it sounds like they want to see how her A1c is doing. She has lost ~50# since starting to take this med. The doc that she sees likes to use it for weight loss I think.

That's my experience so far (just starting NP school in the fall, so I am not to the point of prescribing yet)!!

Thanks for the info. regarding yur MIL and co-worker. It sound like they're using Byetta as a first line drug which I had never thought of doing. As first line it would decrease the weight earlier and prevent the complications of DM. Metabolic syndrome usually includes HTN, High triglycerides, low HDL, Obesity and Hyperglycemia. Maybe your MIL was newly diagnosed.

Thank you for the Byetta site (it was very informative). Also, I found websites for a great deal of free government diabetic educational material at the end of the Byetta site.

I used it with insulin and lost 20lbs.-then had to stop it due to severe nausea.

Supposedly they will come and do very in depth training for you at your office. They will also provide DE's and classes for your patients.

Neither my MIL or my coworker have had nausea which has been good for them. My MIL has lost the weight and says that she just doesn't feel like eating but it's not like she is nauseated. My coworker has not lost much weight and had no nausea but her BS have been GREAT!

Thanks for the help. The info. re: side effects was helpful and I will call Byetta re: inservice. I'll let you know how everything turns out.

Hey! I'm in my ACNP program right now, so don't have personal experience with the drug. However, my grandfather uses Byetta and absolutely has nothing but great things to say. He's been using it for about 4 or 5 months now. Like I said, don't know a lot, but he sure loves it.
