Anybody planning to attend the AANP conference this year?

A coworker of mine mentioned the AANP conference in MD this year. She showed me the agenda and curriculum... now I absolutely have to go! And if any of us show up we could wear an allnurses shirt as support (and find each other).

Also, if you've attended a previous conference, please tell us about it. I'd be very interested to hear what others have to say about them.

Details for this year's conference can be found here.

Heya finch!
I'm going!! I have never been to Washington and so my husband and I are going to make it a vacation. He's gonna go hang out at the Smithsonian while I attend the conference. AND... if you are a student member, the whole thing is only $50! That is insane! I had planned on paying the entire balance, but received an email saying that if you were a student through Sept 2007, you can go for the student rate... and I was! Awesome deal if you ask me! I'll look forward to maybe seeing ya there!! I can email you my phone number when it gets closer!

I almost forgot... I have been to an AANP conference in Dallas and it was SUPERB! GREAT networking and learning opps! Plus you get tons of goodies! *haha*

Sweet! I'm very, very tempted to go. My husband probably won't bother going... we'll see. It would certainly be awesome to meet you!

Yellow Finch...you should absolutely go. Our NP group went two years ago to an AANP conference (Grapevine, TX). Although the sessions were heavy on primary care, there were other choices to keep acute care NP's like us busy. The catch is you have to register early and book your room early. Rooms and sessions go fast! It's a popular conference for all NP's and students nationally.

Our group won't go this year. We have been sent by our hospital to more critical care-focused conferences such as those sponsored by SCCM. But the AANP experience was great. It was like a vacation because they pick the coolest conference sites.

I would love to go this year, please explain more about the student discount. Are you saying if you graduated or was a student after Sept. 07, I graduated in May 07.

Terri

Terri. I think if you register while still a student you pay only $50. At least one of my friends did that. She graduates in May, but has only paid the student rate.

Pinoy - You are so right about booking early! The conference is still open to attendees, but the resort is completely booked and the AANP has even made alternative arrangements at other hotels, which they don't normally do. Must be a huge turn out so far! Plus this is at the BRAND NEW (like... opened April 2008) Gaylord Resort in Maryland, very near Washington, DC on the Potomac.

Finch - you are right... you have to have registered as a student member and actually been a student from Sept 2007 - thru now.

The same thing happened 2 years ago about the hotel rooms. If I remember it right it was also a Gaylord Resort called Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, TX. The rooms reserved for the conference were totally booked months before the conference and many had to stay off site including myself and another NP I work with. It kinda sucked because we had to take a shuttle to the site. It helps to call the resort and ask if you can book at a non-conference rate if your employer is going to pay anyway. We actually did this and had the last two nights at the resort instead of having to stay at an off site hotel the whole time.

Yea, I was at that conference and the Gaylord Texan was very impressive. I didn't get to stay there because of a money and time issue, but I booked early this time and work is paying. So, I'm staying at the new resort... very excited!
