ACNP ideas

I'd like to get my ACNP and ideally practice in a surgical setting involving Critical Care. Trauma or CT would be ideal. I'd like to see patients, perform minor procedures (lines, chest tubes, etc.), and havign the opition to first assist would be nice but not essential.

I'd also like to relocate (I'm in KY). Where is a good place to go and what are the job prospects like? I don't mind working under a physician. I considered PA school, but I think NP will work out better with my family life.

Re: ACNP ideas

Check into the Cleveland Clinic. They utilize NP's in similar roles.

Re: ACNP ideas

Vanderbilt Med Center in Nashville has a level one Trauma Unit that has NPs. I shadow one (I am an NP student). However, I don't think they do chest tubes... but I am not positive. Pretty sure the MD does those.

Re: ACNP ideas

We can do most procedures in the ED. Just something to think about.

Mostly we are FNPs.
