Talking FYI - Accepted a job offer

So I’ve accepted a position at a Children’s Hospital in Ft.Worth, Tx.
I wanted to stay in Colorado OR move to Germany but those seem not to be options at this time.
This seems like a really good starting point. They are familiar working with FNP, PNP, and PA’s. They were willing to work with me and I can work a 4 day week schedule (10hrs x4 days)
I get ~ 3 weeks vacation, 1 week for education leave, usually 10 paid holidays.
Good health insurance and benefits, 401k with 4% match. Unfortunately I have to pay social security at this job. My current job has been great and I have quite I a bit saved in a 401A account (which is the 6% I would have paid toward SS is put into this account with a 3% match from employer, account is in MY name and is MINE when I retire)
They are also giving me $2000 to relocate, and you get a discount in the cafeteria (don’t have that at current job)

I will start on July 21st, pending everything gets done and okayed with the credentialling.

The salary is REALLY good, it is at or above the national average for Nurse Practitioners and above the salary for a person with 0-2 yrs experience. I’m hoping it will help me be able to really get some of these student loans paid off!!

This job is basically doing pre-op assessments on kids. Won’t be writing many prescriptions and no diagnosing, or managing.
So I’m hoping to maybe (after I get settled in) get a job in a retail (Wal-mart/Walgreens) clinic as a nurse practitioner part-time/PRN on the side.

If nothing pans out with Germany within the next year I may consider doing some travel nurse Practitioner jobs, in California, Hawaii, Florida? Not sure but would be neat and prob. Fun, they usually pay for housing which means more of income could go to paying off loans. I also wouldn’t mind doing some international work, missions work.

I am not thrilled to be moving to Texas especially not in middle of July, can you say HOTTTTTTT!!!!

I am really excited to get started as a Nurse Practitioner and hard to believe that all my hard work and schooling is going to pay off, I’m going to get to work day shift, 3 days off per week, no nights, no holidays, no weekends and 3 weeks vaca!! Can you believe it? I don’t think reality will set in til I’m really there! Its amazing they are going to pay me so well for what’s in my brain!

Re: Accepted a job offer

I've been there before so i know how BAD, tried to run with a group in Plano last August, some ran like 14miles or something.. they looked like they had jumped in a lake they were soaking wet with sweat.
I've lived in Miami as well, and a lot of people say that is worse.

The only reason i even care about the weather is because i'm a runner, but I will survive!

Oh FYI, i know it was talked about in other discussions, this job is paid hourly. So i think that is pretty good for me!

Re: Accepted a job offer

congrats!! from what i hear, that particular hospital ur talking about is pretty good, especially since i used to live out there. I may go and work there some day myself. I know that they are very familiar with PNP/PA/FNP's there, which is a big plus for me!!

as far as the texas summers go, get ready...

Neelia,
CONGRATS girl!!! Well, yes... you are SO right about Texas heat. It's freakin' hot! But that's what swimmin' pools are for! And yes, Children's in Ft Worth is a great place to work... I have heard good things about their facility.

Best wishes!!

I'm so happy for you! Sounds like a great job with decent benefits. You'll earn good money and build experience to do whatever it is you want to do in the future. Your experience is an inspiration for me. Just reading about the preceding months up until now has given me lots of hope.

Ft. Worth isn't too bad... at least you have some sort of semblance of seasons there. It's not all summer all the time like it was in Austin. Bleh.
