Good Luck. Only tip: ask any question you have. There are no stupid questions... enjoy.

Good thing you are scared to death, if you wern't I would be afraid for your patients.

Don't worry you will do fine. I felt this exact same way..like I didn't learn nearly enough in school. Don't worry, you did, and it will come back to you when you need it.

Ask all the questions you need to. I had so many questions that I thought i was going to drivew the other nurses crazy. Lucky I work with a great bunch of people that were very patient and willing to give me advise. The biggest questions I had were whether to call or not to call the doctors about the more vague things. It just takes a while to get to trust yourself.

Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Please don't wait until you are already sinking to ask for help. That was one of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome. Don't be afraid to admit that you don't know something. The worst thing is when someone doesn't kow something and is too proud to admit it.

Good luck and make sure you take that sense of humor with you daily.

i wish you all the best in your first job.it was a few years ago when i started my first job and i was frightened to death. always remember that no matter how long you are a nurse you will always be learning and no question is ever stupid and remember the doctors dont know everything and if they ask you to do something you think is wrong ask someone else before you do it no matter how insistant they are.

We have all been there...Trust me..If you use 20% of what you learned in school you will be doing well...You will be surprised just how much you learn on the job, and how much better it will stick with you. I have been an RN for 14 years and call still remember every vivid detail of my very first patient, right down to his name and diagnosis. You will hear a lot of people that need to move on from nursing, but it truly is a great profession with many rewards..You just have to look for them, don't wait for them to find you.

Congratulations! Now that you have worked all of 5 days, I hope you are finding it isn't so scary most of the time; it doesn't hurt to ask questions in most situations; and I also hope you are working with a bunch of nurses who are willing to share their experiences, knowledge, and time with you. In my 30+ years as an RN, I have found that if new nurses are genuinely interested in learning and willing to listen, very few of the "experienced" nurses mind questions from the new nurses. I've worked in some situations where you are forced into a "sink or swim" environment; but don't judge all of nursing by that place. Learn what you can there, then move to a workplace that isn't trying to kill you. Good luck!

HI EVERYONE, MY FIRST DAYS AS A NURSE ARE REALLY GOING WELL AND I AM WORKING WITH A WONDERFUL, HELPFUL STAFF, WILLING TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS AND MOST OF ALL, WILLING TO EXPLAIN ALL THE PAPER WORK (SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOL)I AM NOW RELAXING AND BEGINNING TO ENJOY MY NEW ADVENTURE THAT I HAVE WORKED SO HARD TO ACHIEVE!!THANKS FOR ALL THE FEEDBACK I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
