Congratulations on your acceptance! If you're planning on living close to the school, I would look in Friendship, Bloomfield, and Shadyside for something close. Start looking around Mayish, esp if you want/need more than one bedroom. I was looking last year in July and had a hard time finding a place.

Again, Congrats from a June '08 grad!

Re: Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

Hey everyone!! I am applying to UPMC Shadyside for the Fall 2008 semester as well. I am scheduled to take the PSB test on 5/17. Can anyone who has recentely taken this give me any idea what to expect? I have one of the study guides listed on the school's website and let me tell ya, I feel VERY unprepared for this. I only have 3 weeks...I am signed up for the next to last test date for the year so 3 weeks is it!!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!! :-)

Hi! There are 4 parts to the test....Reading Comprehension, Reading Vocabulary , Math and Science. Make sure that you REALLY know your science. It is the hardest part of the test. That being said, it is doable.......I passed with a very high score after not being in school for several years. Good luck!!!!!!!

Re: Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

I've been debating today on whether or not to take the test in May as scheduled. I really feel like I dont have enough time put into studying and dont want to fail it. I think I've concluded that I"ll study my butt off until the test and if I still feel unprepared, I"ll hold off until the Spring semester.

Science is definately my weakness so I began REALLY studying that today in the book that I do have. I'll be getting the Gooding guide this weekend.

Thanks!

I personally thought the recommended study guides were an excellent prep for the PSB. Good luck, I hope you make it into Shadyside, it's a great school!

Re: Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

As I remember, I was surprised that there was less biology and more general science than I'd expected. However it's been 2 years since I took the test and I've taken LOTS of tests since then, so my memory's kind of hazy. Mommyjskns took the test more recently so she may remember the content better.

Re: Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

If you are studying you should be fine on the test. Be confident...like I said before, I passed it just by studying the books they recommended. They are very thorough, and actually their questions are a little more difficult than the questions on the actual test. On the math, there were alot of fraction and decimal problems. Make sure that you know basic Fahrenheit to Celsius conversions.....such as boiling point and freezing point. You will do fine. Just keep studying and go in feeling confident:-)
