Yet another book thread. :>)

Okay, looking for recommendations for my ever-growing library- your favorite:

(if you have one)

neonatal cardiology books?

neonatal radiology interpretation?

neonatal pulmonary/respiratory texts?

developmental care?

and also,

is there a good quick-flip handbook for NICU? I've seen these for adult ICU- about the size of a Neofax, but with resp. stuff, hemodynamic information, code tips, pearls, etc.?

Particularly with the cardiology book, I'd like one that includes great images to go along with the descriptions, and preferably that include nursing-relevant topics/interventions (as opposed to those written specifically for MD's).

I've got the basics now (two drug books, Meren./Gard., two pediatric/infant care nursing textbooks, two for preemie parents, breastfeeding books out the hoo-hoo, infant massage book, kangaroo care book).

Thanks!

I recently bought Assisted Ventillation of the Neonate, Fourth Edition by Goldsmith & Karotkin (2003) ISBN# 0-7216-9296-6 and am really learning a lot.

I sure would love to find a good book on Developmental Care because my new hospital could be doing more in that area. Our NICU Educator suggested I do an inservice on Developmental Care after I get out of orientation so I'm really glad they are interested in considering doing more in this area. I'm going to try to contact my previous hospital's CNS who was very helpful to us a few years ago when we really embraced it... I hope she's still there and can help me out a bit.

I also have found great insight from Manual of Neonatal Emergency X-Ray Interpretation by Meerstadt & Gyll (1996) ISBN# 0-7020-1567-9. It has oodles of great photos and I think it can't be beat.

By the way, what is the name of your Kangaroo Care book? I don't have one of those yet and really would like a good one. Thanks!

Oh Dawngloves,

That's an adorable looking book! I wonder how the story goes? I'll have to see if our local bookstore carries it so I can read the whole story. It might be something we could recommend to parents...

Here is one I'm thinking would be good on Kangaroo Care. If anyone has it, I hope they'll let us know if it's a good one:

I'm SO getting that rabbit book! How'd you find that? I can't wait to read it and recommend it.

The kangaroo care book you linked to is the one I got (used from Amazon for 10 bucks!). It's the ONLY one I could find, and when I got it, it was really designed for families (I'd KILL for one written from a scientific or nursing-related approach!). That's ok with me, though- I have other books for parents (So, you're going to be a Dad... and Preemies are my FAVORITES) and they're still excellent resources. These books have really helped me relate to my pt's parents on a whole new level, and I've been quite successful in making a (fairly!) good impression from the feedback I've heard, so it's worth a read in my book. If you're looking for a nursing book, though, that's not it. Kind of disappointing, but helpful in a different way.

BTW, if anyone's into this, check out this catalog (you can order one off of the internet- it has SO much stuff in it that the site doesn't have):

http://www.acegraphics.com.au/product/index.html

Also, they have the INFACT Canada posters, if you haven't seen these already:

http://www.acegraphics.com.au/product/chart/ch012.html

And, as an aside, they have these precious magnets:

I'm a catalog junkie. Let's change this thread! I started it, I vote to change it. Share your catalogs with me so I can feed my hunger!

Also: www.healthedco.com and www.noodlesoup.com if you haven't been there already. Can you tell I'm into education?
