Wish me luck!

Okay folks, I just woke up for my first shift on days for post-op cardiac orientation. Two years in, but that's another story. And yes, I'm scared witless. I know this stuff, on paper, but given that they made me wait TWO YEARS to officially start orienting to it, I'm half convinced I'm going to do something incredibly idiotic. I did manage to convince the charge nurse to let me accompany a baby to cath lab the other night, which is usually Not Done, and everything went a-ok. If I can crash a baby onto ECMO, I can do this, right?

Right?

Re: Wish me luck!

It went just fine. The fresh cookies I brought as a "please don't hurt me, day shift!" bribe might have helped.

First day we got a VSD fresh from the OR, so I got the initial rush of stuff. Yesterday we had a really complicated TGA who'd come back the night before in complete heart block who was still being paced at 160, which almost never happens on our unit. Half our kids come back without wires, even. So that was really cool, and none of the cardiologists seemed to want to kill me, which is nice.

Thank you all again for your good wishes!
