We are looking for new syringe pumps for our hospital. Can you suggest one that you really like, is easy to set up, can deliver as low as 0.01ml per hour and is not prone to error? It seems there are a few that have been recalled lately and I have heard that not many companies are making syringe pumps anymore. Thanks!

We use Medfusions....never had a problem with them. We have several on the unit that can infuse down to ,o1 , you just have to use a 5ml syringe.

Medfusion. If you use the ml over time choice, you'll get a more precise rate. We just got a bunch of new ones.

We mainly use our Alaris syringe pump modules that attach to our IV pumps. They are awesome. We also have some old medfusion pumps that we use when we have to.

We just got the Medfusion 3500 "Smart Pump" on our unit. I love them because they have a library of all of our meds, and you can label the pump with what's infusing to prevent errors. It also has all the standard concentrations for meds and drips in them, so it's a double check for us. We haven't had any problems with them so far.

Right, we had that issue too. Like the docs would order standard concentrations of Fentanyl in a 20ml syringe and we couldn't get the pump to run that slow. But if we used 5ml or smaller syringes, it would accept slower rates.

Yesterday was our "go live" for these new pumps. They are a bit awkward to get used to initially, but have so many wonderful features and safety checks, nothing else really can compare. Our unit did the trial in the last couple of years looking at three different pumps and this was the best by far. The older MedFusions were AWFUL at delivering drips of anything that was vasoactive or for insulin. The delivery was NOT consistent, so we were (until yesterday) putting all of our vasoactive drips on our Alaris'. Which poses a real problem when you want to wean your dopa by less than 1 mcg!
