We do use that oral sucrose on babies who can't eat, etc., sometimes they like it, sometimes it doesn't distract them long enough.

Sucrose

We use sucrose on our babes, using a leuer tip syringe. It works best with the older/bigger babies......put a drop or two on his (or her) tongue, and watch him taste it and smack his lips. Then put a paci in. It won't work on every baby, but it helps some. It's also useful with starving breast feed only babies, with or w/out a paci.

At least it can help them fall asleep till mom comes back.

We use it , but I don't know if it works that great. It seems that most respond more to patting and rubbing. Just my 2 cents.

Hi there....
Have used sucrose, Sweet Eaze, 12% Sucrose.....they seem to work okay with a pacifier....personally I think it's more the consoling of the sucking that calms them than the sucrose. Studies have shown that the sucrose releases natural pain relievers in the body, especially neonates. I think it hurts either way, it's simply a form of distraction.
