NICU Case Manager

I'm thinking of taking a NICU Case Manager position and was wondering if anyone is doing this type of work right now? Can you tell me what your
responsibilities are and if the pay is any good?

This question can be best answered by human resources and the NICU nurse manager at the hospital you are considering the offer from. Reason is that salaries and job responsibilities will vary greatly from hospital to hospital. It's safest to get this information straight from the horse's mouth, so give them a call!

I can only tell you that our case manager has the most to do with discharges. She makes a lot of phone calls and does a lot of paperwork dealing with insurance, Medicaid, home nursing care, medical supplies and equiptment, etc. She basically coordinates everything necessary to send home a baby with continuing healthcare needs.

Ours does the same thing. One of her big responsibilities is also to collect each baby's information for the interdisciplinary rounds conference that is held a couple of times per week, working with each service (nursing, the docs, OT, nurtrition, etc) to make sure we're making progress.

But as Gompers said, this hospital should spell out its own job responsibilities.

Re: NICU Case Manager

Thanks for the replies. I have an interview this Thursday with a company and just wanted to find out what the current salary is for this position since I've only done bedside care in the NICU. Wanted to see what they offer me will be reasonable.

I'd check something like www.salary.com or a similar website. Salaries vary so much across the country, it's kind of pointless to ask around if you don't know exactly what city people live in. Good luck with your interview!
