My first post, and it's a vent. :)

Most of the time, they're really wonderful.....the parents. They are loving, and caring and appropriately involved. It's awesome watching them with their babies, teaching and developing those relationships, you know?

But this week, I'd like to kick me some arses! The list: smoking in the changing room, eating/drinking in the unit, coming into the unit barefoot (ew!), arguing (loudly) at the bedside, sucking obnoxious amounts of face and groping each other while LEANING AGAINST THE ISOLETTE...all coupled with the "Oh, you're our nurse? We thought you were our waitress" attitudes.....Ah!!!!!

Thank goodness they are grower/feeders. Please, let them all have a normal bili's and ABG's over the weekend, so they may be gone by Tuesday.

Okay. That feels better. Thanks!

What IS that??? We had a baby whose momma was the relative of a powerful politician, and she stayed on the unit 24/7 and would, like, walk to the milk fridge to put away her EBM barefoot. Everyone was too scared to say anything because of who she was related to, but oh. My. God. That is so vile. I swear that room smelled like feet and mustard once they finally left.

Yuck...I don't care how "important" or well known a person is, or their relatives. Patient safety and a clean environment is vital. If a family is being inappropriate I say something, first to them directly, and if they continue to be inappropriate we have full support from management to help us straighten out any situation. barefeet? YUCK.
I once had a wacko dad who was LICKING his baby's foot-seriously...I draw labs off that heel! Once I explained that to him, he stoppeD!
