Exclamation Re: Member-recommended neonatal reading list!

I keep a copy of "Newborn Intensive Care: What Every Parent Needs to Know" by by Jeanette Zaichkin in my locker, so I can copy and provide info for parents as needed. It covers everything, and it's in plain speak... so parents can easily understand what their child is going through.

it's a great book.

Re: Member-recommended neonatal reading list!

What do you recommend of these lists for a brand new nurse (well almost) going to work in the NICU?

Re: Member-recommended neonatal reading list!

Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care (mentioned above) is great and it's considered by many to be one of the most authoritative sources for NICU personnel. You'll sometimes hear it referred to as 'the Merenstein-Gardner' (the names of the authors).

I also have Lange's Neonatalogy by Gomella and it's pretty good too.

I'd recommend this book for parents:

"Your Premature Baby: Everything You Need to Know About Childbirth, Treatment, and Parenting" by Frank Manginello and Theresa Foy DiGeronimo

Re: Member-recommended neonatal reading list!

I'm doing my "transition" course in a level 3 NICU and I'm pretty much clueless to what goes on in there. What's a simple book that isn't TOO detailed that might help me through this semester? I'm looking for something w/ normal lab values, common meds, common treatments...anything to give me some sort of idea on what will be going on with my patients. Thanks!
